 Locust (Carob )  
 蝗蟲 (角豆)

 

  1. Locusts are mentioned as part of the wilderness diet of  John the Baptist (Matt 3:4; Mark 1:6).
    A locust 
    蝗蟲 is one kind of grasshopper.
    It has a brown-colored body two to three inches long.
     

  2. An evergreen tree growing about 6 to 9 meters (20-30 feet) tall and having small glossy leaves. It bears long pods 豆莢 known as carob 角豆 or locust beans (Luke 15:16).

    豆莢 the long dark-colored edible pod of the carob tree that contains a sweet-tasting pulp.
    Some people believe John the Baptist ate the plant (
    locust beans) locusts, not insect locusts.
